I have heard that having a swimming pool can be a lot of work. How much work is involved in owning and caring for a swimming pool?

In the past, pool maintenance could be a bit of a chore. Today's pool technology makes owning a pool almost effortless! Most pool chemical testing, routine maintenance, cleaning, filtration, and heating can be automated now. This allows you to spend your time enjoying your pool and spa rather than working for them.

Will a pool increase the value of my home?

Yes. A pool will increase the value of your property anywhere from 7% to 15% depending on where your house is located. It will also continue to increase in value over time. A custom pool is a substantial differentiator when selling your home.

How do I select the right pool builder?

Interview your prospective builders very carefully. Here are a few things to consider.
  • What is the company's reputation in the community?
  • Has a friend, colleague, or neighbor used the company with good results? If not, can the company provide you with reliable references?
  • How does the company treat you as a potential customer?
  • How long has the company been in business?
  • How many pools are they building in a year? Are they a custom builder or mass marketer?
  • Will the company provide you with a clear written estimate and design plan so that you're not confused about what work will be done?
  • Will they finish the project on time?
  • Is the company in good standing with the local building permit offices and Better Business Bureau?
  • Will the company add hidden charges after the construction process has begun?
  • Will the company be careful to coordinate landscaping and other outdoor projects, or is that up to the home owner?
  • Will they keep your property clean and safe throughout the construction process?

Should I consider building my own pool as a general contractor?

No! Even the industry experts encounter significant challenges during pool construction. Years of experience, knowledge, and specific training lead to wise and innovative solutions that produce superior quality finished products. Longhorn Pools and Spas will coordinate all of the work including landscaping so you experience no hassles or headaches. Plus, everything is guaranteed. For more information, check out

Why choose Longhorn Pools and Spas to create my stunning pool backyard?

Longhorn Pools and Spas is a custom pool designer and builder. We choose to only build a relatively small number of pools each year for discriminating clients. Longhorn Pools and Spas is known within the industry for offering unparalleled customer service and quality construction. We help you understand the design options, clearly communicate what you can expect during the construction process, and make sure that you are well informed during each phase of the project. Many competitors fail to supply adequate project management during construction trying to manage too many simultaneous pool projects with inadequate management resources. Longhorn Pools and Spas will insure your pool project moves along smoothly per plan and coordinate with complementary landscaping projects.

Will Longhorn Pools and Spas provide a complete landscape solution or will I have to find my own landscape design and installation?

Longhorn Landscape Creations is a leading Landscape design and construction company in the north Texas region. We design and build arbors, covered patios, fireplaces, BBQs, patios, and outdoor kitchens. We can provide a complete in house, quality, award winning design solution and seamless installation. Some pool companies have an internal 'landscape' group to support combined pool and landscape projects. Typically they are neither well trained nor experienced landscapers.

How should I decide on the design of my pool?

Each property has unique features that must be considered when your pool is being designed. At your request, a design expert from Longhorn Pools and Spas will meet with you at your home and/or our showroom to discuss your pool needs and desires. We will ask you how you intend to use your pool. Is exercise important? How about family use? Diving? What about location? Where will the pool look best when viewed from your home? Our design expert may take photographs, video, or sketches of your yard. Then we will prepare a custom design that fits your needs and your budget!

Are there any additional options available to add to my pool?

Technology is changing at a rapid rate, and swimming pools are no exception. Innovative water treatment options, fiber-optic lighting, remote controls, automatic cleaning systems, solar heating, smart pumps, and many other options are now available to make your pool more enjoyable and easier to maintain than ever before. We pride ourselves on keeping abreast of the best and proven innovative pool technologies.

Why do cost estimates vary so much while the pools seem to be the same?

The price of a pool is determined by much more than just the size and shape of that pool. Unfortunately, many contractors don't include important factors that affect cost in the actual estimate they give you. This also means that you can get hit with hidden charges after construction has begun. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Some important things to consider are:
  • Design Expertise
  • Craftsmanship
  • Quality of Materials
  • Structural Strength and Durability
  • Customer Service and project management
  • Time Required for Construction
  • Warranties
Longhorn Pools and Spas' estimates always include the highest quality materials available, superior craftsmanship, expert design, and unparalleled customer service. You also get the knowledge and expertise of more than 25 years of custom pool building experience. We never submit a low introductory bid with the intent of making expensive changes later.

What factors affect the cost of my swimming pool?

Surprisingly, construction costs for the pool structure itself do not vary greatly from pool to pool assuming similar construction design, steel, gunite, etc. Pool prices are affected slightly by ease of access onto your property, demolition requirements prior to construction, rock charges, and local permit costs. The size and design of the pool do affect the cost, but not as much as you think.

Much of the variation in price is based on what is called "hardscape." Hardscape is what is placed around your pool to enhance and implement its design. The size and materials used in your deck, patios, waterfalls, planter walls, edging, and other features can be simple or sensational. As the customer, you have the greatest influence on your total budget as you control the extent of your pool's hardscape.

I often see advertisements in community magazines and the local newspaper supplements promising pools at very low prices. Should I consider this option?

The old adage is still true: "You get what you pay for." It is certainly possible to build a pool at a low price. Be aware that equipment, structural elements, craftsmanship, and design are all compromised in a low cost pool. Plus ending up with a pool that doesn't fit your property because of improper design or poor quality construction materials can put you and your family at risk. At Longhorn Pools and Spas we know that the cost difference between a great job and a poor job does not have to be significant. Your Longhorn professional will work with you to create a design that within your budget. We can also help you secure the appropriate financing. The end result is a beautiful, dependable, and affordable custom pool enhancing your home value.

What about financing for this type of project?

It's probably easier than you think. Families have discovered they can have a beautiful new pool by merely taking the equity in their home and converting it to cash. It's easy, inexpensive, and tax wise!

It's Easy. Most lending institutions can provide approval over the phone or Internet.

It's Tax Wise. Did you know that every dollar of interest you pay can be taken as a direct deduction from your taxable income?

You can also use your swimming pool financing to generate additional funds for other home improvement projects or to pay off other higher interest, non-deductible loans or credit cards. This often results in savings that literally pay for the home improvement.

What about warranties? Is my investment well-protected?

Warranties are very important. You should always ask for and compare the warranties when requesting estimates from builders. At Longhorn Pools and Spas, we provide you with the strongest guarantee in the swimming pool industry. We are confident in the product we build, and offer a warranty to back it up. Our warranty is transferable should you sell the house.

You should also remember that a warranty is only as good as the company that issues it. Dozens of pool builders go out of business each year taking your warranty with them. Anyone can offer a "lifetime warranty", but if they aren't in business for the duration of your pool's life, then you haven't got much of a warranty.
